About

The Design Factory

Here's what usually happens with custom carpentry in Singapore: your interior designer draws it, outsources it to a subcontractor, who outsources the cutting to a factory in Johor. By the time the wardrobe arrives at your HDB flat, three different parties have touched it and nobody is fully accountable for the result.

The Design Factory eliminated that chain entirely.

The Design Factory operates our own carpentry workshop. Every wardrobe, kitchen cabinet, TV console, shoe cabinet, and platform bed is designed, cut, assembled, inspected, and finished by our team. One team. One standard. Your standard.

What We Build, and Why In-House Manufacturing Changes Everything

Kitchen Cabinetry

Upper cabinets, lower cabinets, islands, pantry units. We build for Singapore kitchens — which means accounting for heavy wok cooking, grease buildup, humidity from boiling water, and the reality that your kitchen does triple duty as dining room, homework station, and video-call backdrop. Laminate selections, soft-close mechanisms, and internal organisers are all customisable to your layout.

Built-In Wardrobes

Full-height, wall-to-wall wardrobes with handle-less doors are one of the most impactful upgrades in any Singapore bedroom. We build to the exact dimensions of your wall — no awkward gaps, no filler panels. Internal configurations (hanging rods, shelving depths, drawer dividers) are planned around your actual wardrobe, not a generic template.

Platform Beds & Storage Systems

In a 4-room HDB where every square foot counts, platform beds with deep drawers underneath can hold seasonal clothing, bedlinen, and luggage — eliminating the need for a separate storeroom. We design storage that disappears into your architecture.

TV Consoles & Feature Walls

Built-in feature walls that conceal routers, game consoles, cables, and media equipment behind clean panel faces. We integrate LED backlighting, display shelving, and hidden storage into a single carpentry unit that anchors your living room.

Shoe Cabinets & Entryway Storage

Singapore's shoe-removal culture means every home needs an efficient entryway solution. We build ventilated shoe cabinets with pull-out racks, umbrella compartments, and key storage — custom-fitted to your specific entrance dimensions.

E0-Grade Plywood.

The Lowest Formaldehyde Emission

We use E0-grade plywood exclusively — the lowest formaldehyde emission classification in the industry. Most mass-market carpentry in Singapore uses E1 or E2-grade boards, which emit higher levels of formaldehyde, a volatile organic compound linked to respiratory irritation.

In Singapore's climate — where homes are frequently sealed with air-conditioning running 8–12 hours daily — indoor air quality matters more than most homeowners realise. E0-grade plywood means your wardrobes, cabinets, and built-in furniture aren't quietly off-gassing into the air your family breathes.

What "own factory" actually means:

01

Precision: CNC cutting to millimetre tolerances. No hand-cutting guesswork.

02

Quality control: Every unit is dry-assembled and inspected before delivery. We catch misalignments, edge-banding issues, and hardware defects before they reach your home.

03

Accountability: If something isn't right, there's no finger-pointing between designer, contractor, and factory. We own the entire chain.

04

Speed: No waiting for third-party factory slots. Our production schedule is coordinated directly with your renovation timeline.

FAQ Section

Q; How much does custom carpentry cost in Singapore? A: Carpentry typically accounts for 35–45% of total renovation costs. A full-home carpentry package for a 4-room HDB (wardrobes, kitchen cabinets, TV console, shoe cabinet) usually ranges from $15,000–$35,000 depending on material selections and complexity. We provide itemised pricing for every unit.

Q: What's the difference between E0, E1, and E2 plywood? A: These classifications refer to formaldehyde emission levels. E0 is the lowest (≤0.5mg/L), E1 is moderate (≤1.5mg/L), and E2 is higher (≤5.0mg/L). Most budget carpentry in Singapore uses E1 or E2. We use E0 exclusively for better indoor air quality.

Q: How long does custom carpentry take to manufacture and install? A; Manufacturing typically takes 3–4 weeks after design confirmation. Installation takes 2–5 days depending on complexity. We coordinate delivery with your renovation timeline to minimise delays.

Q: Can I order custom carpentry without a full renovation? A: Yes. We accept standalone carpentry projects — replacement wardrobes, new kitchen cabinetry, or individual furniture pieces — without requiring a full interior design engagement.
