Why Does the EEG Grant Matter for F&B Businesses in Singapore?

Updated: 23 hours ago

For F&B in Singapore, the EEG grant provides a great opportunity to modernise your business even through commercial interior design firms | The Design Factory

Whether you’re opening a café or launching a food production facility, managing costs is one of the biggest challenges you’ll face. In Singapore’s competitive environment, balancing function, design, and budget can be tough — especially for those looking for affordable interior design Singapore solutions.

One of the smartest ways to ease your financial burden is by tapping into available government grants. For F&B businesses in particular, the Energy Efficiency Grant (EEG) can make a significant difference when investing in essential equipment like refrigeration systems and ovens.

What is the EEG Grant?

The Energy Efficiency Grant (EEG) is a financial assistance scheme introduced by Enterprise Singapore, launched on 1 September 2022, specifically for the food services, food manufacturing, and retail sectors. The goal is simple: to encourage local businesses to adopt energy-efficient equipment that helps reduce energy use and operational costs.

Since its introduction, nearly 2,000 businesses in Singapore have already benefited from the grant. If you're in the F&B industry, it’s a great opportunity to modernise your equipment while cutting down on energy consumption.

How Much Support Can You Receive?

The EEG is a co-funding grant, meaning the government will fund up to 70% of the cost of pre-approved energy-efficient equipment, up to a cap of $30,000.

Eligible Equipment Includes:

  • LED lighting (including models not regulated by MELS)

  • High-efficiency air conditioners (MELS 3-tick or 4–5 tick units)

  • Clothes dryers

  • Commercial refrigerators

  • Cooking hobs

  • Water heaters

For larger projects, you can apply under the Advanced Tier, which offers up to S$350,000 in support — provided the equipment used results in 350 tonnes or more of lifetime carbon savings.

Who Can Apply?

To qualify for the EEG, your business must meet the following conditions:

  • Be registered and operating in Singapore

  • Have at least 30% local shareholding

  • Employ at least one local employee

  • Have an annual turnover of less than S$500 million

  • Be in an eligible sector (e.g. Food Services, Manufacturing, Retail, Construction)

  • Use brand-new equipment (not purchased or contracted before applying)

How and When to Apply

Before you start your project, make sure you've submitted your EEG application. You cannot apply after the equipment is already installed or purchased.

Application Process:

  • Base Tier: Apply via the Business Grants Portal

  • Advanced Tier: Apply through sector-specific channels (e.g. BCA for construction)

After receiving approval, you'll need to purchase and install the equipment within one year, and then submit a claim for reimbursement.

Why Choose Energy-Efficient Equipment?

Adopting energy-efficient solutions isn’t just good for the environment — it also makes financial sense. Lower energy bills, longer-lasting equipment, and reduced carbon footprints all contribute to a more sustainable business.

For F&B owners, using energy-efficient appliances can make daily operations smoother and more cost-effective, especially in kitchens where equipment runs for long hours every day.
